Welcome to the TCC Bioscience web site!
My name is Stacia Sarwinski and I was hired as the Outreach Representative at the beginning of August. My job is to coordinate outreach efforts for the bioscience majors at TCC. I am available to speak to classes or students about bioscience careers and opportunities for scholarships, internships, or research experiences. I look forward to helping students find their passion in the bioscience field and assisting them with the resources necessary to turn their passion into a career.
A little bit about me – after I graduated from Grove High School in 2009 I immediately set off on the adventure of a lifetime. I attended the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Government in 2013. The combination of science and writing that was required for me to obtain my degree makes this job a perfect fit for me. My time as an undergrad afforded me the opportunity to study abroad at Hong Kong University for a summer course and serve as a Presidential Fellow (a year-long research project) my senior year. I would love to talk about the amazing benefits of both to any interested students!
After graduation I was commissioned as an Officer in the Coast Guard and moved to St. Petersburg, Florida where I served 2 years on a 210’ ship that sailed the Caribbean. Our responsibilities in addition to Search and Rescue, were stopping drug traffickers, illegal fishing, and illegal immigration.
I was then transferred to Juneau, Alaska where I worked on creating sustainable fisheries policies and practices for the state of Alaska. I also spent time traveling the entire state, visiting remote Alaskan villages and Coast Guard units. At the end of my time in Alaska I separated from Active duty and moved back to Oklahoma – not a lot of Coast Guard here in this landlocked state of ours.
In addition to my job here at TCC I am a full-time student working on my prerequisites for Nursing School. I have always loved the biosciences and I couldn’t be more excited to be a part of the TCC family! I will work hard to make this site valuable for all students, prospective students, and faculty at TCC. In order to do so, I ask that students, faculty, and staff send me any event information, photos, or science activities that are happening on any campus and I will post it. My email information is listed to the right of this blog.
I look forward to meeting more students and faculty in the coming months and helping to expand the biosciences footprint at TCC.
