What Can I Do With a Degree In...

Biology...     Biotechnology...     Chemistry...
Have you ever wondered what career choices are available to you with a degree in the biosciences and how much does it pay? Well, look no further. We've compiled selected careers you could pursue after receiving your degree (Associates, Bachelors and Graduate) in biology, biotechnology, chemistry or related field.

Tulsa Community College's Associates of Science Degrees in Biology, Biotechnology and Chemistry are designed for transfer to an Oklahoma 4-year institution, where students can receive a Bachelor of Science degree in their chosen field. Most students decide to transfer, however, there are some career options with TCC's Associate of Science degrees as well.

Most students transfer to a 4-year University to finish a Bachelor’s of Science Degree. TCC’s Biotechnology AS transfers seamlessly with several universities. Current transfer agreements are listed below:
TCC AS Biology to NSU BS Cell and Molecular Biology
TCC AS Biology to NSU BS Integrative Biology – Organismic
TCC AS Biology to OSU Biology Pre-Healthcare
TCC AS Biotechnology to NSU BS Cell and Molecular Biology
TCC AS Biotechnology to OSU BS Plant Biology – Cell and Molecular Genetics
TCC AS Chemistry to NSU BS Chemistry – Biochemistry
TCC AS Chemistry to NSU BS Chemistry – Environmental
TCC AS Chemistry to NSU BS Chemistry – Professional
TCC AS Chemistry to OSU BS Chemistry

What Can I Do with a Degree In...Biology, Biotechnology or Chemistry?

About Biology Major:
Degree from TCC: AS in Biology
Degree from 4-year: BS in Biology (various sub-specialities)

Description of Biology:

Majoring in the biological sciences is a likely choice for the student who is curious about life, creative, highly motivated, and interested in solving biological problems. Biologists are involved in agriculture, forestry, wildlife management, environmental science and other fields that make the world a healthier and safer place to live. The biological sciences will also prepare the student for entry into one of a variety of technical fields in Allied Health.
Learning Outcomes:
  • Apply scientific method to biological problems.
  • Integrate concepts from several disciplines around a central biological theme.
  • Communicate biological information.
  • Discuss issues involving biology in society.
  • Use proper field or laboratory techniques.
  • Evaluate scientific literature relevant to biology.

About Biotechnology Major:
Degree: AS in Biotechnology from TCC

Description of Biotechnology:
Students will be educated in the fundamentals of biology, chemistry and biochemistry with heavy emphasis on a wide range of laboratory procedures. Lab safety, protein isolation and separation techniques, cell culture, molecular biology and recombinant DNA will be covered.  Quality control will be addressed as it applies to both a manufacturing and research environment.
Program Learning Outcomes:
  • Design an experiment.
  • Evaluate scientific literature.
  • Utilize biotechnology laboratory techniques.
  • Apply biochemical principles to processes of biological organization.
  • Identify examples of careers and job responsibilities associated with biotechnology.
  • Communicate science effectively using written or oral presentation skills.
  • Apply responsible conduct of research.

About Chemistry Major
Degree from TCC: AS Chemistry
Degree from 4-year: BS Chemistry (+ subspecialty if desired)

Description of Chemistry:
Chemistry deals with the composition, structure and interactions of matter, and as such the study of chemistry is basic to all sciences. This degree prepares the student to enter the allied health and other medical fields such as nursing, pre-med, and medical laboratory technology. This degree also prepares the student to enter programs in aerospace, agriculture, biology, engineering, environmental science, and petroleum engineering.
Learning Outcomes:
  • Communicate chemical information using oral, written or digital presentation techniques.
  • Locate scientific literature.
  • Evaluate scientific literature.
  • Solve problems with scientific methods.
  • Use proper laboratory techniques.
  • Identify issues involving chemistry in society.
  • Apply core concepts of chemistry.
  • Explain chemical processes.
  • Integrate concepts from several disciplines around a central chemistry theme.
  • Illustrate scientific data with graphs, tables, or text.
  • Use chemical instrumentation.
